My Life’s Work
Living a life free from disease is about aligning your actions with your health goals. My goal is to help shed light on the space between your goals and actions so that you can move towards your optimal health. Using tools from my training in functional nutrition, I provide an evidence-based approach to patient care that allows time for a complete medical history, lab work, and lifestyle adjustments in order to optimize your health. I partner with my patients to allow for the type of personalized, integrative care that is necessary to find balance within the realm of chronic disease.

“Julie- On behalf of the DCV and FBWEV, I want to thank you for the informative and engaging presentation you gave on nutrition and cognitive health. As I mentioned, many attendees told me how much they benefited by your presentation. We truly appreciate your taking time for your busy schedule to share your knowledge and experience with us. Also, you are just wonderful to work with!”

“I wanted to try the Prolon FMD to break poor eating habits, get healthier, and ideally lose some weight. After completing 2 consecutive months of the Prolon FMD, I can happily say I have accomplished all three of my goals! I eat smaller portions, I choose better snacks and food, I've cut creamer or sweetener out of my morning coffee. Feeling better "overall" has also shifted my mindset toward better long term health so just fewer calories, less alcohol, fewer sweets and desserts overall.”

“You bring a positive and assuring energy to the group efforts to improve our health through FMD. You immediately respond to each of the member's comment or question, which is very reassuring.”

“Use a mentor! It's so helpful to go through client cases with someone that has so much experience in the field. Julie is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in going through real client issues. I recommend choosing her as a mentor!”

"I love that Julie was prepared in advance of my first appointment. She knew my diagnosis and my doctor recommendations. In fact, she was so prepared that she correctly anticipated my questions and offered a wide range of dietary recommendation, how to store, and prepare meals. I would recommend Julie’s services without hesitation! I’ve learned how to prepare, cook, and store food for optimal health benefits to help live a good life even though I have a chronic illness. I’m also impressed with Julie’s follow up after appointments. She sends an email outlining our conversation, more or less a treatment plan.”

"What I like most about working with Julie is her ability to listen. She is very attentive and totally present when working with me. I‘d most definitely recommend her services to other people! I have complex health issues and Julie worked with me to determine which foods and eating practices would best meet my nutritional needs. She helped me achieve my goals of eating in ways that reduced my need for medication and improved my cognitive performance. Julie connects all the dots. She treats the whole person. She’s superb at follow up and makes herself very accessible. Her knowledge, care and commitment have been invaluable to me."
About Julie
I offer functional nutrition counseling that is rooted in a simple and compelling belief: the human body has powerful healing capacities that, when supported, can bring a person to their optimal state of health.
My journey with health began at Cornell University, where I studied Resource Economics. Yes, I wanted to understand the drivers of people’s actions and choices, many of which seemed to be in conflict with their personal well-being—and that of the planet’s. My interest in health extended to the role of food as medicine during my first pregnancy and then with my first child. My colicky newborn graphically illustrated the concept that what you eat can make a huge difference in how you feel and what your body can tolerate. With each new family member, the message became more clear: food matters! After serving as my family’s nutritionist for over a decade, I decided to combine my passion for food, gift for healing, and desire to help others through my work in the field of integrative nutrition.
I hold a B.S. in Resource Economics from Cornell University and a Masters of Science in Integrative Health and Nutrition from Maryland University of Integrative Health. I am a Licensed Dietician Nutritionist (LDN) in Maryland, a Licensed Nutritionist (LN) in D.C., and a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS), and a Certified Ketogenic Nutrition Specialist (CKNS).
I have done advanced training in the following areas of interest:
Small Intestinal Bowel Overgrowth (SIBO) with Dr. Alison Siebecker
Nutrigenomics
I am a Recode certified practitioner and a certified teacher with the Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation.
Different Ways to Work with Julie
I work with people in several ways: 1:1 nutrition and health coaching, online group courses, group speaking engagements and classes, and student mentorship for the CBNS credentialing.
Insurance coverage
As a licensed nutritionist I can provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) procedure codes for you to submit to your insurance company that accompany any diagnosis codes that you have received from a medical doctor. I do not work directly with insurance companies but I have many patients that report good reimbursement of my fees. The best approach is to consult with your insurance company to know your specific coverage for MNT.
